Amy Helen Bell (MSc, BSc Hons)

*1984, Belfast, UK

ESL/EFL Teacher

Amy had a passion for English from a young age and achieved A*s in both English literature and English language in her GCSE examinations. She went on to study English at A-level and also achieved the highest grade at this level, receiving an award for the top mark in her school. Amy’s other passion is sport, she has represented her country, Northern Ireland at both football and netball up to under 21 level. Amy had the opportunity to play football in many countries which fuelled a new passion for her, travelling and learning about other cultures and languages. Amy spent four months in America working at a summer camp before going to University at 18. This involved coaching football and teaching children a range of other subjects. A large number of the children spoke Spanish which meant Amy had to find other ways to communicate with them and she used her own break times to teach them as much English as possible. Amy was commended by the camp director for her committment and enthusiasm to her students.

At 18, Amy decided to study Sports Rehabilitation at the University of Salford in Manchester, England, she still lives and works there at present. After completing her degree, Amy moved into lecturing, combining her love of sports injuries with teaching. She taught for a private company for four years and was a senior lecturer and manager of her education centre. During this time she completed her teaching qualification, PTLLS (Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) and her assessing qualification. She became qualified as a first aid instructor and taught a wide range of other subjects including anatomy, nutrition, business skills and personal development.

Whilst lecturing, Amy went on to complete a Masters degree in Sports Injury at the University of Manchester in which she achieved a distinction, the highest grade at this level. She was invited to present her work on the effect of career ending injuries for athletes at an International conference in London in June, 2009. This led to her being nominated for the Early Career Research Award and her work was subsequently published, a great accolade at just 25.

Amy decided that she was ready for a new challenge and had always dreamed of teaching English abroad. After extensive practical and theory training with the internationally recognised i-to-i TEFL organisation, she became a qualified TEFL Teacher of English as a foreign language. Her previous teaching qualifications and experience of lecturing young adults for four years combined with her knowledge and passion for the English language make Amy a very effective teacher. She uses creative methods to achieve the learning outcomes of every lesson and always strives to make learning as enjoyable as possible, even grammar!

In 2011, Amy Bell joined the European Language Learning Centre in the Czech Republic. Here she completed specialized training in face-to-face teaching children, youth and adults as well as teaching via Skype. Now she works as an ESL/EFL Teacher. She is responsible for working with English language learners in order to help them gain fluency in spoken and written English, as well as for introducing cultural aspects, designing the bulk of the courses, and choosing materials for all levels of ESL/EFL. She is a highly qualified native English teacher within TEFL and TESOL. She is a member of the Oxford Teachers' Club.
